Owls in the Family mostly revolves around the small-town life and presents before us a world long forgotten. For many of us urban dwellers, it is as good as a getaway from the chaos of city life as a short vacation.
In a town which has rarely seen any mishap, two murders in a day arouse suspicions. The responsibility to unravel the mystery behind these two seemingly exclusive incidents falls on the shoulders of Inspector Satyajit. Soon, the clues lead to the very underbelly of organized crimes – a gun club, a business-politics nexus, and much more.
The plot is pretty straightforward. The story traces Aalok and his life. There aren’t any subplots in the book which leaves a lot to be desired. There are, however, changes in the timeline. The plot shifts from the present to flashback to the present again. This is a welcome break from the otherwise monotonous plot.
The plot of An Orphan’s Pilgrimage is quite simple: Manohar, the child of a physically and emotionally abusive father, grows up in extremely difficult conditions. He blames his father for ruining his and his mother’s life, and has thus grown up with one ambition: when he’s strong enough, he will find his father and take revenge.
All of the short stories in The Goat Thief revolve around the trials and tribulations of an ordinary rural life. Be it the jealousy of a village elder on seeing his younger neighbour building his house, or the joy experienced by a night watchman in getting acquainted with a female company for the first time.

The Seventh Cup has a moderate pace which keeps increasing with each passing chapter. Though quick, it is not difficult to keep up either. It is a fusion of a psychological thriller, suspense thriller and rom-com. It is the humour that holds the story together which is light and touchy.
Forsaken by Desire by S. Shekhar is a romance, with the right amount of drama and passion mixed with it. It is gorgeously written – just the right words, the right adjectives, the right dialogues. The romance isn’t too cheesy, and yet it delivers the perfect amount of butterfly-in-the-tummy moments.
