Very few book series have the ability to retain a reader’s attention beyond their second and third book.

The Princess Diaries: Third Time Lucky, which has managed to take its readers on a roller coaster ride yet again and has done so remarkably well.

In this third book of the Princess Diaries series, Mia Thermopolis, the recently discovered young new royal of the principality of Genovia (a small and sleepy kingdom in the confines of present-day Europe), find herself ever more attracted to the supposed love of her life, who by default or by fate is none other than her best friend Lily’s elder brother Michael.

While Mia is building castles in the air, dreaming day in and day out about her Prince Charming, Michael is busy dating or if not that, at least flirting, with the super wiz girl on the block, the one who can clone fruit flies.

So, as fate would have it, Mia is all set off to compete with the genius fruit fly cloner, when she herself can barely pass her Algebra.

The fact that Grand’Mere is becoming ever more obsessed with her Princess training and that her predecessor-to-the-throne-of-Genovia (who is also a struggling designer and trying to find his way into the fashion arenas of New York) uses her to model his clothes, is even more disappointing.

To top it all, the impending trip to Genovia, where she is supposed to address the nation for the first time, is drawing nearer and nearer.

So how will Mia survive the wrath of her peers at the show off (read modelling unknowingly) which she just did recently? How will she find her way into the heart of Michael?

How will she ever be able to compete with the fruit fly cloner? And will she pass her exams especially Algebra? What will become of her Genovia trip? And will she be able to break up with Kenny; the not so useful boyfriend she has started dating?

Who will ask her to the non-denominational winter dance? To know all this and more, catch on to this exciting third book in the Princess Diaries series.

The best part about The Princess Diaries: Third Time Lucky is the lightness with which one can enjoy and savour this exciting story of Mia.

The characters are as lively and vivacious as ever and the suspense and the thrill are also beautifully maintained and are in tune with the first two books. The Michael and Kenny angle adds spice to the story and the wait for the result until the end of the book, is rewarded well.

Thus, all in all, it’s a classy chick-lit and therefore a must-read for all girls especially teens. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series and I am sure, that as I write, you must be too.
