This book is about the different places the author travelled to and how he met the varied feathered creatures with their unique characteristics, perspective and way of life who provided valuable insights to him, and through him, to the readers.

I loved reading My Feathered Friends and so, although it is not a book with bulging number of pages, I took my time enjoying each chapter within the book! If you are thinking about what to expect from the book, well, let me tell you that it will be a lot about birds!

It is interesting how the author crafted a book of self-help and self-exploration but through the voice of the different types of our feathered friends. It is a book that even young readers can read, understand and enjoy as it is written as stories of these birds like Missy Pigeon, Mrs Peacock and Jolly old Vulture! Also, each chapter comes with a beautiful picture of the bird who steps up to carry on the plot and it seems like a nice addition from the author’s side.

I must say that sometimes self-help books can get tiresome and I tend to skip the pages as I am unable to relate to the topics discussed or even, the narration style! It was not so for My Feathered Friends. I enjoyed the lessons the birds preached! And, they were not any random topics but questions that often bother us; like in the case of the dove who left her cage of comfort, safety and companionship to wander across miles, alone and unaware of her destination.

I loved that story a lot because it was a question I was asking myself for a few days – whether to explore the World or is it safe to stay put in the comfort of my room. I realised that if I don’t spread my wings and do what I am supposed to do, I may become lazy and weak, I may forget my purpose in life, I won’t be able to meet the people who are out there or experience the things Life has to offer! And it was explained so brilliantly in just a few pages by the little white Dove!

Moreover, I realised that it is not only about writing page after page of motivational speech or life hacks, but it is also important that the author ensures the message is received by the readers while they enjoy the plot! And, the author Sunil Bhatia has been successful in achieving that point.

The readers join the author as the birds narrate engrossing stories to him. In the end, the readers will be left contemplating about what the birds believed and to what extent human beings will be able to accept these lessons/ outlook propagated by these feathered friends.

The author’s poetry forms the second part of My Feathered Friends. As a fan of poetry, I loved the author’s poems which is further subdivided into Love poems, Mystical poems, Inspirational Poems, Humorous poems, Futuristic poems and many more… transforming the book from birdy tales to a poetic delight!

Even while discussing topics like consumerism and climate change, the author maintains a light mood. The poems were impactful as they reflected on the current events with vivid description. Overall, I was happy to come across this book with lucid language and captivating narration in pages that were silky soft to touch.

In the end, I would just like to add one point to My Feathered Friends that interestingly discusses various aspects of life. It comes with a blue cover with a glossy finish and a feather representing the centrepiece of the book – the birds. It is a pleasant cover but I would like to suggest an even better cover art as the book is brilliant and thus, it deserves a beautiful representation which will attract more readers towards this book!

As this book was just Part I, I am eagerly waiting for the next Part(s) to come as I am interested to know where the author’s journey takes him next!
