The book is basically a crime mystery in the garb of a romantic drama. Surely, there is a bit of both (romance and drama) but the suspense overpowers them in a big way. What I absolutely loved in this book is its strong plot. If there is one thing that appears to have taken a good amount of effort and thinking, it is the plot.

Rolling in the Dark is the story of a woman’s relentless pain and sorrow, her several sacrifices and her unwavering determination to survive just for her child. It is the story of an ambitious, young girl Meera who is forced to marry rather than pursue her higher education. Bottling her wishes within her, Meera enters her married life unaware of what lies ahead.
Along with a decent dose of family rivalries, cultural clashes, friendly animosities, clandestine affairs and emotional melodramas, Paradise Towers has just the right kind of humour to add to the already spicy mix. It doesn’t tell us the story of one or two protagonists but that of a society (neighbourhood) as a whole.
The book is typically a romance however it isn’t one of those overly cheesy and cringe-worthy romances that leave you irritated. What sets Heart Quake apart is its unique setting in the aftermath of the Bhuj earthquake. Heart Quake isn’t about “love at first sight”; instead it tells us the story of a love rekindling after 10 years of separation.
The Perfect Us is the story of a married couple wanting to take the next step forward in their lives i.e. getting pregnant and having kids. It talks about the issues and struggles which would-be parents face. It also talks about the inevitable changes that creep in a marriage/relationship that has lasted 10 long years.
Pyjamas are Forgiving is a drama whose story revolves around love, marriage, infidelity, longing and divorce. There is a good message to be learned from the book especially when it comes to falling and giving yourself in love. Love is a beautiful thing but when it comes at the price of losing oneself, it’s never worth it.
Handwritten Letters in the Bookstore is said to be India’s first musical novel. It is a good attempt to discuss past as well as emerging music genres and styles and the impact of music on the minds of the people; it is a good attempt to encourage handwritten letters over digital relationships.
T21 in Downs Lane is an attempt to provide insight into the life of people with special needs. Not a grand heroic narrative, the book focuses on the daily struggles that the protagonist faces as he suffers from Down Syndrome. Emotional and perceptive, this book gives a broad perspective into the lives of people who are marginalised and side-lined
Everyone Has a Story 2 talks about love and friendship and how important they are in one’s life. It also talks about the struggles that creep in a relationship whenever it is time to take the next step forward. Overall, the book does encourage perseverance and not losing hope but that’s pretty much it.
From Emptiness to Happiness narrates the story of a compassionate and impulsive anaesthesiologist, Dr. Riya, and her tryst with love. Riya meets Samith and through their story, the reader gets a glimpse into the lives of medical professionals, their doubts, insecurities and decisions.
Anon has an excellent plot line which spans decades, cities, multitudes of people and yet amongst all this swarm, it is able to retain the core elements of the book. Notwithstanding so many surprise plot twists, Anon remains a hundred per cent about writing and how it can make or break somebody.
Go for Thorns of Love if you are someone who often gets played at love. Through this story, the author lists out all the signs to look for, in order to identify a toxic relationship, while also telling you the do’s and don’ts of love. It is a solid life lesson to those who are often tricked into unhappy relationships.
The Last Nomad narrates the life events of a boy called Rahul who suffers from selective mutism and is denied decent medical treatment due to the superstitious nature of his parents. The slums of India is portrayed in minute details. Heramb delves on the subjects of unemployment, poverty, alcoholism and corruption.
Sorrow That You Keep is the story of love and separation captured beautifully in a language which is soothing to the mind and melodious to the heart. Just under 80 pages, it manages to indulge the reader in a way many other books fail to. It is that book which you read not for entertainment but for its life lessons.
The Longest Ride on the Kincham Express is the story of five individuals who are sent on an official journey by their employers. The mission of the journey is cryptic at best and there is an underlying feeling of adventure and fear which troubles these five people as they start out for the longest ride of their life.
Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood is one of the most popular books of Murakami and is set in the Japan of the 1960s during the period of student revolution. It’s a coming-of-age dark romance and drama which is melancholic and strangely peaceful at the same time.
