“Dear child, please remember, for your Guru or for any teacher each and every one of his students is the same. His love is just like the Sun’s rays that reach every form of existence with the same intensity. It is up to you, as to how much of those rays you want to absorb”
– Mayur Kalbag, Aghori: An Untold Story
If you’ve ever been even a little curious about spiritual fiction, this book has probably grabbed your attention. Its bold title, mysterious theme, and striking cover don’t just catch your eye—they pull you in. Aghori: An Untold Story is more than just a book; it’s an unforgettable journey.
INISLOT88It takes you into a world full of secrets and strange rituals, a place so hidden and powerful that most people haven’t even heard of it, let alone seen it for themselves.
As a reader, you can’t help but dive deeper, wondering if any part of this story is even close to the truth. Could this strange and mysterious tribe of sadhus really live the way the book describes? Is this story, in some way, based on the author’s real-world experiences?
On this point, I must say—the book may be marked as fiction, but the author leaves a door open. He asks you to trust your own thoughts, your own belief system. He doesn’t confirm or deny the strange and powerful events that unfold. Instead, he lets the mystery remain, for you to decide what to believe.
Let’s talk about the story
Subbu is an ordinary man with an extraordinary curiosity for the spiritual. But when his Guru sends him on a secret, spiritually important mission, his life takes a turn he never saw coming. He sets out on a dangerous journey deep into the heart of the Himalayas.
There, he must live among the Aghori sadhus—follow their customs, take part in their sacred rituals, and become part of a world far stranger than anything he’s ever known.
On this path, Subbu will be pushed to accept a new reality, let go of everything he once believed, and face sights that would shake even the strongest mind.
No matter how strange or dangerous they seem, Subbu’s heart burns with a deep desire to understand the Aghori sadhus and their hidden, otherworldly practices. His quest is no ordinary journey—it involves carrying three powerful mantras that have to be embedded within him, each one to be unlocked by his Guru at the right time.
What unfolds is nothing short of a miracle. This path promises an experience like no other, both for Subbu and for the reader. It is spiritual and mysterious, yet also dark and terrifying—a journey into the unknown that grips your soul and refuses to let go.
My thoughts
Honestly, this book shines a new light on the world of the Aghori sadhus. It gently pulls back the curtain on a group long wrapped in mystery and fear.
With every page, it helps the reader move past old myths and misunderstandings, offering a rare look into their lives—their unusual customs, their intense practices, and the beliefs that guide them. For the curious mind, it’s a powerful glimpse into a world most of us have only heard whispers about.
Aghori: An Untold Story begins with a bang—and that, truly, is one of its strongest points. Right from the first chapter, it throws the reader into a whirlwind of action and spiritual intrigue. The pace is steady throughout, with one adventure following another, each bringing a mix of mystery, danger, and awe.
I especially appreciated how the author sets up the journey—it’s gripping and full of promise. However, as the story progresses, the storytelling begins to lose its spark. Despite the incredible and shocking events that fill the pages, the writing doesn’t quite rise to the occasion.
What could have been a powerful, unforgettable experience ends up feeling a little bland, offering a reading journey that’s rich in concept but average in execution.
Yet, despite its flaws, this is a book that I believe anyone even slightly interested in spiritual fiction should pick up. Yes, many of the things mentioned may seem too outrageous, too unbelievable—but that’s exactly what makes it so fascinating. After all, who’s to say where fiction ends and truth begins? Sometimes, the truth really is stranger than fiction—and Aghori: An Untold Story dares you to explore that very line.
