Novoneel Chakraborty’s books need no introduction. He is a master storyteller specializing in complex domestic and dramatic thrillers esp. those which feature romance, suspense, and erotica. The author has to his credit more than 20 books and his writing is only getting better.

Novoneel’s latest book to hit the market is titled A Thousand Kisses Deep, which is a sequel to the bestselling book That Kiss in the Rain which was released almost 13 years ago.

The author is known as the Sidney Sheldon of India as all his plots are full of dark twists, layers, and layers of psychological elements, and strong female characters. This is exactly what A Thousand Kisses Deep serves too.

The book being a sequel, I would highly recommend that you at least skim through the first book before you get to this one as the understanding and reading experience would be much enhanced by doing so.

The plot summary of A Thousand Kisses Deep

Pallavi is a flight attendant who after being rejected by Haasil goes on a self-destructive path seeking one thrill after the other, and in return mentally destroying a lot of lives.

Pallavi wants nothing more than to get back with Haasil, and she hits jackpot when she meets Palki. Palki, who is Haasil’s ex-wife and who until now was presumed to be dead after an accident that happened many years ago.

To get to Haasil, Palki is the perfect tool for Pallavi. Thus, Pallavi makes an elaborate plan which involves not only Haasil and Palki’s life but also Swadha – Haasil’s current wife. And this deadly plan is bound to cause all of them a lot of pain.

My thoughts on the book

Romance and thrillers are two of my favourite genres, and whenever an author combines the two, it inadvertently becomes a no-brainer pick-up book for me. The same was the case with this one too.

The setting and the pace of the book especially when it comes to thrillers need to be perfect so that the readers are engaged and hooked right from the beginning till the end. It has to be such that the reader cannot stop reading and, quite, fortunately, this book did just that for me.

However, it took me some time to get into the characters’ backgrounds and backstories. Some parts did feel abrupt and disconnected esp. at the beginning of the book and hence the reason for me recommending you to at least skim through the prequel.

Since I did not do it, it took me a while to get a hang of the characters and their situations, but once I figured all that stuff out, the book was simply unputdownable.

Coming to the characters, Pallavi was this strong though a mentally unstable character who just cannot get over her unrequited love for Haasil. How her mind works and to what length she can go to get her “high” or her goal in getting back to Haasil is excellently portrayed.

Haasil is this confused man who is trying to forget his true love and move on in life, only to be pushed back in the middle of things.

One does feel sorry for Swadha, but eventually, even she has to suffer because of her actions.

To sum it up, A Thousand Kisses Deep takes you on a thrilling ride where not only emotions but also destiny plays a big part in deciding the characters’ life outcomes. Thrilling, layered, twisted, and beautifully messy, the book is a binge-able read.
