Sachin Garg has to his credit a number of best-selling books including It’s First Love… Just Like The Last One, Never Let Me Go, Come On Inner Peace! I Don’t Have All Day! and of course the book in question I’m Not Twenty Four …  I’ve Been Nineteen For Five Years.

Since I have never read any of his other works, when I started the book I didn’t know what to expect. But, if I really have to sum up my feelings about the book, I will put it this way – I was truly and deeply surprised!

This book is about a boy who hails from Delhi and works in a steel plant located in a sleepy little hamlet called Toranagallu, in the Southern state of Karnataka.

On one occasion when he is on his way from Toranagallu to New Delhi, going on vacation to his hometown, he meets a girl known as Saumya who is also from the city of Delhi.

Surprised on coming across a city girl amidst such rural settings he urges her to tell her story. The book thus captures Saumya’s story as told by her.

So who is Saumya? And what is she doing wearing salwar kameez and travelling in village buses rather than shopping her heart out in a posh Delhi mall donning her minis and micro-minis? Who is the love of her life? Will she be able to find him in this tiny village in Karnataka?

To know this and much more read this wonderfully crafted work of fiction today!

The plot is good and the story interesting.

The author makes up for the lack of fun and adventure in the rural setting by introducing interesting characters and settings throughout the book. The characters of Saumya and the main lead Shubro are also quite charming and captivating.

I really liked the storyline in the way that it is so different from the regular college/office romance. The end is also quite good as it sticks to the “happy ever after” norm and yet manages to be not so cheesy and cliché at the same time.

Thus to sum it all up, I’m Not Twenty Four …  I’ve Been Nineteen For Five Years is a good read and I would recommend it to all my readers. I will also look forward to reading more books from the kitty of Sachin Garg for he is surely one author to watch out for.
